Frequency Converter

Convert Hz, kHz, MHz, GHz and RPM, with the period in milliseconds.

Quick answer

  • Formula: Result = Value × (factor of from-unit in Hz) ÷ (factor of to-unit in Hz); Period (ms) = 1000 ÷ frequency in Hz
  • Worked example — Converted frequency: 3,600.000000 (full example below).

Summary60 Hz = 3600 RPM

60 Hz is 3600 RPM — and each cycle lasts 16.67 ms, which is why 60 Hz lighting flicker is hard to see.

Convert frequency through the hertz (cycles per second): kilo-, mega- and gigahertz step by 1000, while RPM and cycles per minute step by 60 — 60 Hz is 3600 RPM. The period output shows how long one cycle takes: period = 1 ÷ frequency, so 50 Hz mains has a 20 ms period.

Everyday anchors: mains electricity is 50 or 60 Hz, concert A is 440 Hz, FM radio sits around 100 MHz, and Wi-Fi runs at 2.4 and 5 GHz.

The formula

Result = Value × (factor of from-unit in Hz) ÷ (factor of to-unit in Hz); Period (ms) = 1000 ÷ frequency in Hz

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert RPM to Hz?

Divide by 60: a motor spinning at 1800 RPM rotates at 30 Hz. To go from Hz to RPM, multiply by 60.

What is the period of 440 Hz?

1 ÷ 440 ≈ 2.27 ms. The period output shows this for any frequency you convert.

Are cycles per minute and RPM the same?

Numerically yes — both count events per minute. RPM is used for rotating machinery; cycles per minute is the generic term.
