Tip Calculator

Worked example result
Tip amount$15.00
Total with tip$115.00
Per person$57.50
Tip per person$7.50

A $100 bill with a 15% tip split two ways: $15 tip, $115 total, $57.50 each.

Work out a tip as a percentage of the bill and split the total evenly between any number of people — no mental math at the table.

The formula

Tip = Bill × Tip%; Per person = (Bill + Tip) ÷ People

Frequently asked questions

What is a standard tip?

In the US, 15–20% is customary for table service, 20%+ for excellent service. Many other countries include service in the price or expect around 10%.

Should the tip be calculated before or after tax?

Traditionally on the pre-tax amount. If you tip on the post-tax total, the effective tip is slightly higher — the difference is small either way.
