Velocity Calculator
Find velocity, distance or time from the other two quantities.
Quick answer
- Formula: v = d ÷ t; d = v × t; t = d ÷ v
- Worked example — Velocity: 10.0000 m/s (full example below).
Velocity Calculator
| Velocity | 10.0000 m/s |
| Velocity | 36.0000 km/h |
| Distance | 100.0000 m |
| Time | 10.0000 s |
Covering 100 m in 10 s is an average velocity of 10 m/s — exactly 36 km/h.
Average velocity is distance travelled divided by the time taken, assuming a steady speed or that you only need the overall average. This calculator can also rearrange the relation to find distance or time.
Pick a mode, then fill in the two known values — the value being solved for is ignored. Results give velocity in both metres per second and kilometres per hour.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between speed and velocity?
Speed is a magnitude only; velocity also has a direction. This calculator works with magnitudes along a straight path, so the numeric value is the same.
How do I convert m/s to km/h?
Multiply by 3.6. Conversely, divide km/h by 3.6 to get m/s. 10 m/s = 36 km/h.
